Bathroom Remodeling St. Clair Shores, MI

St. Clair Shores bathroom remodeling, tub-to-shower conversions, and shower replacements by our own installers

About half of the homes in St. Clair Shores were built in the 1950s, and many still have the original steel or cast iron tub, wall tile set over wire mesh, or a window in the shower wall. We turn those tubs into walk-in showers, replace tubs and walls, and remodel full bathrooms. Our own crew handles it, start to finish.

  • Near 11 Mile and Little Mack

A Cast Iron Tub Out, a Carrera Shower In

This was a wet-area-only job. The cast iron tub, the acrylic panels over the old tile, and the shower doors came out, while the tile wainscoting and floor stayed. The new 60-inch shower sits on a custom Carrera Pro Stone pan with a hexagon pattern, with Carrera walls, trim that finishes the edge of the wainscoting, three corner shelves, and a heavy 3/8-inch clear glass door with matte black hardware.

Pink Tile Out, a Frost Shower and Navy Vanity In

Everything pink came out of this first-floor bath: the tile walls, wainscoting, pony wall, and vanity counter, plus two soffits, the tub with gold sliding doors, the toilet, and the mosaic floor. In went new drywall, a Frost Pro Stone walk-in shower with a corner seat and two pie shelves, a 60-inch Nightfall maple vanity under a Frost top, a Kohler toilet, and gray tile flooring.

A Full Remodel With a Double Vanity

In this first-floor bath, the steel tub, all of the tile (wet-area walls, wainscoting, and two layers of flooring), the soffit, and the old vanity came out. In went a 60-inch acrylic tub with Italian White Pro Stone walls to the ceiling and four corner shelves, a pair of 30-inch drawer vanities under an Italian White top with two wave bowls, and plank flooring over a new plywood subfloor.

    A Slate Shower With a Built-In Seat

This walk-in shower was built on a custom 60 by 33 1/2-inch Pro Stone pan in Slate, with matching Slate walls, an 18-inch wave seat, two corner shelves, and clear glass doors in chrome. The vanity matches the shower: a 48-inch maple vanity in Dusk with dovetail drawers, under a Slate Pro Stone top with a recessed square bowl.

St. Clair Shores Homes

What St. Clair Shores Bathrooms Usually Need

Much of St. Clair Shores was built in the 1950s, and most homes are owner-occupied single-family houses. Many bathrooms still have their original tub and tile, or acrylic panels added over that tile later.

A new medicine cabinet is an easy add-on to a vanity or shower update.

Census estimates put the median year built for a St. Clair Shores home at 1957, compared with 1975 across Macomb County. About half of the city’s homes went up in the 1950s alone, and about 63% were built before 1960, compared with about a quarter countywide. About 8 in 10 are detached single-family houses, about 83% are owner-occupied, and about 8 in 10 have two or three bedrooms.

In homes this age we often find steel and cast iron tubs, wall tile set in mortar over wire mesh, acrylic panels added over old tile, and windows in the shower wall. In their place go walk-in showers, new tubs, and grout-free Pro Stone cultured marble walls. For planning numbers, see typical bathroom remodeling costs.

  • Steel and cast iron tubs: replaced with a walk-in shower or a new acrylic tub, as near 11 Mile and Little Mack
  • Tile wainscoting and soffits: removed, with new drywall in their place, as near 11 Mile and Jefferson
  • First-floor baths over a basement: new shutoff valves and drain work go in from below
  • Every home: a written, all-in price after we measure, covering materials, labor, haul-away, and cleanup

St. Clair Shores FAQs

St. Clair Shores Bathroom Remodeling Questions

Straight answers, drawn from bathrooms we have remodeled in St. Clair Shores.

  • How long does a bathroom remodel take in St. Clair Shores?
Tub-to-shower conversions and tub replacements with Pro Stone walls take 2-4 working days. Full remodels take 5-10 working days, depending on scope, like the bath near 13 Mile and Harper, where we replaced the tub, walls, vanity, and floor and added an exhaust fan.
  • Can you replace a steel or cast iron tub?
Yes. Near 11 Mile and Little Mack, a cast iron tub came out for a 60-inch Carrera shower on a custom Pro Stone pan, and near 13 Mile and Harper, a steel tub was replaced with a new 60-inch acrylic tub. Old wall tile set in mortar over wire mesh, or acrylic panels added over tile, comes out before the new walls go in.
  • Can I keep my tile floor and wainscoting?
Often, yes. Near 11 Mile and Little Mack, we changed only the wet area: the tile wainscoting and floor stayed, and Carrera trim pieces finish the edge where the new shower walls meet the old tile.
  • What if there is a window in my shower?
We keep it and trim it in Pro Stone so the walls stay sealed and easy to clean.
  • Can you add a shower seat or grab bars?
Yes. Near Masonic and Greater Mack, the new shower has an 18-inch Pro Stone wave seat. Near 11 Mile and Little Mack, we reinforced the framing for grab bars and a folding seat before the walls went up.
  • Which parts of St. Clair Shores do you serve?
All of St. Clair Shores, including the 48080, 48081, and 48082 ZIP codes, from 8 Mile to the north end of the city. We also work in nearby Roseville, Eastpointe, Harper Woods, the Grosse Pointes, Harrison Township, Clinton Township, Fraser, and Warren.
  • Are estimates free, and do you offer financing?
Yes. The in-home consultation and written estimate cost nothing, and financing options are available. For planning numbers before we visit, see our Metro Detroit bathroom remodeling cost guide.
