The Job

Cast Iron Tub Out, Carrera Walk-In Shower In

This first-floor St. Clair Shores bath had a cast iron tub in an arched alcove, with acrylic panels over the old tile and a sliding glass door. Only the wet area changed. The tub, the old wall panels and tile, and the doors came out. The subway tile wainscoting and hexagon floor stayed.

We built the walk-in shower on a custom Carrera Pro Stone pan with a hexagon-pattern surface. The back wall is cut to follow the arched ceiling, and three corner shelves sit in the corners. Carrera trim finishes the edge where it meets the old wainscoting. We added framing so the two grab bars and the fold-down seat are solid, and mounted the rain head in the ceiling.

The homeowner supplied the matte black shower trim, the seat, and one grab bar, and we installed them. The shower took Dan 5 working days. The glass door was hung on a return visit, so the photos show the shower before it went in. Painting was left to the homeowner. Jeff was the product specialist.
