Bathroom Remodeling Sterling Heights, MI
Sterling Heights bathroom remodeling, tub-to-shower conversions, and shower replacements by our own installers
About half of the homes in Sterling Heights went up in the 1960s and 1970s, and many still have a hall bath built around the original tub alcove. We turn those tubs into walk-in showers, replace worn tubs, shower stalls, and walls, and remodel full bathrooms, including upstairs baths. Our own crew handles it, start to finish.

A Walled-In Tile Shower Opens Up Into Neo-Angle Glass

We built an open neo-angle shower on a custom Pro Stone pan with marble-look Pro Stone walls 110 inches high, a pony wall for the controls, an extra-large recessed niche, two grab bars, and heavy frameless glass. A maple vanity with three cabinets, a 58-inch Pro Stone top, and Armstrong marble-look flooring finish the room, with a new recessed light and fresh paint.

An Upstairs Fiberglass Shower Redone, Plus a 118-Inch Top
Upstairs, the fiberglass shower surround and its door, the old vanity top, and a wall-wide mirror came out, while the floor, toilet, and vanity cabinets stayed. We built the new shower on a 48-inch Pure White Pro Stone base with a hexagon-pattern surface, with Italian White Pro Stone walls about 85 inches high, two corner shelves, a wave seat, an 18-inch grab bar on reinforced framing, and clear sliding glass doors in chrome. A 118-inch Italian White Pro Stone top with two undermount sinks now spans the vanity.

What Sterling Heights Bathrooms Usually Need
Sterling Heights was built out fast in the 1960s and 1970s, and most homes are owner-occupied single-family houses. Many of them still have the bathrooms they were built with, and that shapes the work we do here.
Census estimates put the median year built for a Sterling Heights home at 1977, close to the Macomb County figure of 1975. The difference is how concentrated it is: about half of the city’s homes went up in the 1960s and 1970s, compared with about a third countywide, and the 1970s alone account for nearly 3 in 10. Only about 8% were built before 1960. About two-thirds are detached single-family houses, and about 76% are owner-occupied.
In homes this age we often find the original steel tub, tile set over wire mesh, and a soffit above the tub, as in the upstairs hall bath off Schoenherr. In their place go walk-in showers, new tubs, and grout-free Pro Stone cultured marble walls. For planning numbers, see typical bathroom remodeling costs.

Sterling Heights FAQs
Sterling Heights Bathroom Remodeling Questions
Straight answers, drawn from bathrooms we have remodeled in Sterling Heights.
-
How long does a bathroom remodel take in Sterling Heights?
Tub-to-shower conversions and tub replacements with Pro Stone walls take 2-4 working days. Full remodels take 5-10 working days, depending on scope. The upstairs hall bath off Schoenherr, with a new shower, two vanities, and a new floor, was a full remodel. -
Can you make the shower bigger than the old tub?
Sometimes. Near 17 Mile and Ryan, we expanded the wet area into the closet next to the old tub alcove for a 5-foot shower with a 60-inch Pro Stone base, Italian White walls, corner shelves, a grab bar, and sliding glass doors. We check the framing and plumbing at the consultation. -
Can you replace a tiled shower stall?
Yes. Near 19 Mile and Hayes, we replaced a tiled shower with a custom 36 by 40 1/2-inch Pro Stone pan, a one-piece curb, and white subway-pattern Pro Stone walls 96 inches high. Pans are made to fit, so an odd-sized shower is not a problem. -
Can I keep a tub instead of getting a shower?
Yes. Near Metro Parkway and Mound, the family wanted a tub, so we set a new insulated steel tub with white subway-pattern Pro Stone walls, a diamond corner caddy, and two grab bars, and finished the room with two maple vanity cabinets under a 101-inch double-bowl top. -
Do you remodel second-floor bathrooms?
Yes. The hall bath off Schoenherr, near Metro Parkway, is upstairs. We took out the steel tub, the tile on wire mesh, and the soffit, then built a Vermont Blue Pro Stone shower with a matching ceiling panel and a wave seat. We plan plumbing access for upper floors at the consultation. -
Which parts of Sterling Heights do you serve?
All of Sterling Heights, including the 48310, 48312, 48313, and 48314 ZIP codes, from 14 Mile up to Hall Road and from Dequindre to Hayes. We also work in nearby Troy, Warren, Shelby Township, Clinton Township, Utica, Macomb Township, and Rochester Hills. -
Are estimates free, and do you offer financing?
Yes. The in-home consultation and written estimate cost nothing, and financing options are available. For planning numbers before we visit, see our Metro Detroit bathroom remodeling cost guide.
