Cast Iron Tub and Tile Out, an Italian White Tub Bath In

This Ypsilanti Township bath had a cast iron tub and old mosaic tile. The homeowner likes to soak, so a new tub with Italian White Pro Stone walls went in under the window. A hickory vanity and a plank floor finish the room.

The Job

A Cast Iron Tub Bath Made New

This first-floor bath in Ypsilanti Township sits over a basement. It had a cast iron tub and white mosaic tile with a dark border. The tile around the tub had been patched.

The tub came out, along with all the tile. That meant the tub walls, the wainscot, and the floor under the old vinyl. The vanity and the mirror came out too. The old medicine cabinet behind the door was closed in with drywall.

New insulation and drywall went up. A white BCI acrylic tub went into the same spot, under the window.

Italian White Pro Stone panels line the tub walls, in a gloss finish. A matching kit trims the window, so the trim stands up to water. Two corner shelves are built in.

A Delta tub and shower set adds a hand shower, in brushed nickel. An 18-inch grab bar matches.

A 24-inch hickory vanity in a natural finish now holds an Italian White Pro Stone top with an undermount bowl. A matching hickory cabinet hangs over the toilet.

A Panasonic fan with a light went in. Armstrong Biome plank flooring in Solstice runs through the room. The toilet went back in its spot.

The homeowner kept the old vanity faucet, and supplied the mirror and the shower rod.

Adam and Dave did the installation in 7 working days. Larry was the product specialist. The homeowner painted the walls after we finished. This is one Home Pro USA project in Ypsilanti Township, in Washtenaw County. See more on our Ypsilanti page.

Questions About This Remodel

How long did this tub remodel take?
Seven working days. Adam and Dave took out the cast iron tub and all the old tile. Then they hung drywall and set the new tub and walls. The vanity, floor, and fan went in last.
Why keep a tub instead of a walk-in shower?
This homeowner likes to soak, so a tub stayed in the plan. A new white acrylic tub went in where the cast iron one sat. Italian White Pro Stone walls replaced the tile, with no grout lines to scrub.
Can Pro Stone go around a window over a tub?
Yes. A matching Pro Stone kit trims the window opening, so there is no painted wood in the splash zone. Here it wraps the frosted window above the new tub and matches the walls.
What is Italian White Pro Stone?
Pro Stone is our cultured marble. Italian White is a soft white with light veining, here in a gloss finish. The vanity top is the same color, so the tub walls and the top match.
Did the toilet and faucet stay?
Yes. The toilet came out for the new floor and went back in its spot. The old vanity faucet went onto the new top. The homeowner also supplied the mirror and the shower rod.
Do you work in Ypsilanti Township?
Yes. See our Ypsilanti page and our Tender Grey shower story there. We also work in nearby Ann Arbor and Saline, and across Washtenaw County. Every estimate is clear and written.
