A Basement Bath Rebuilt in Galaxy Grey
Everything but the drywall came out of this basement bath: the wire-mesh tile shower and its built-in seat, the shower door, the tile floor, the vanity and top, and the toilet. The new shower has a white Pro Stone base, Galaxy Grey walls, and a heavy clear glass door, with Pro Stone pieces around the door jambs where rot had started. A 36-inch Steel Grey maple vanity and matching wall cabinet sit with a Galaxy Grey top, new flooring, and a new elongated toilet.

A Cast Iron Tub Out, a Carrera Shower In
Only the wet area changed in this first-floor bath on a concrete slab. We removed the cast iron tub and the wire-mesh tile walls, then set a 60-inch white Pro Stone shower base with Carrera walls, a corner caddy, and a cover strip where the new walls meet the tile that stayed. A straight chrome curtain rod finished the opening.

This larger remodel has a shower on a custom 43 by 54-inch Pro Stone pan, with Beige Pro Stone walls 98 inches tall. Pecan cherry cabinets, including a sink base, a combination vanity, a drawer bank, a linen cabinet, and a wall cabinet, sit under two Beige Pro Stone tops.

What Bloomfield Township Bathrooms Usually Need
Most of Bloomfield Township was built from the 1950s through the 1970s, and most homes are larger, owner-occupied single-family houses. Many bathrooms still have their original tub, tile, and vanity.
Census estimates put the median year built for a Bloomfield Township home at 1968, compared with 1975 across Oakland County. About 2 in 3 homes went up between 1950 and 1979. About 78% are detached single-family houses, about 88% are owner-occupied, and more than half have four or more bedrooms.
In homes this age we often find cast iron tubs, shower tile set in mortar over wire mesh, built-in shower seats, and basement or first-floor bathrooms built on a concrete slab. In their place go walk-in showers, new tubs, and grout-free Pro Stone cultured marble walls. For planning numbers, see typical bathroom remodeling costs.
