Bathroom Remodeling Redford, MI
Redford bathroom remodeling, tub-to-shower conversions, and tub replacements by our own installers
Close to 6 in 10 Redford Township homes went up in the 1950s, and many still have the original cast iron or steel tub, tile set over wire mesh, tile wainscoting, and one full bathroom for the whole house. We turn those tubs into walk-in showers, replace tubs and walls, and remodel full bathrooms. Our own crew handles it, start to finish.

The Only Full Bath Gets a Walk-In Shower With a Seat
This is the only full bathroom in the house. The cast iron tub, the tile set over wire mesh on the walls, the wainscoting and the floor, and the vanity came out. A 60-inch shower went in on a white Pro Stone pan, with Tender Gray Pro Stone walls, a corner seat, two corner shelves, two brushed nickel grab bars, and a sliding door with obscure glass. We moved the vanity plumbing and its light to fit a new Merillat vanity in Graphite under a Carrera Pro Stone top.

A Steel Tub Becomes a Large Walk-In Shower
The home has one bathroom. The steel tub, the wall tile, a dropped header over the tub, a narrow side wall, the tile floor, and the damaged subfloor along the plumbing wall came out. The new 67 1/2 by 29 1/2-inch shower sits on a custom Italian White Pro Stone pan with a one-piece curb, with Italian White Pro Stone walls 92 inches tall, a corner caddy, and a window kit around the window that stayed. A Delta shower fixture and a 12 by 24-inch floor finished it.

Water Damage Repaired, a New Tub, and a New Window
In the home’s only bathroom, we removed a fiberglass jetted tub, the wet-area tile, a glass block window, a dropped header, the vanity, the tile floor, and an old clothes chute, then repaired the water-damaged framing and subfloor. A 60-inch white acrylic tub went in with Carrera Pro Stone walls, a matching ceiling panel, two corner shelves, and a window kit around a new white vinyl double-hung window. A Portrait maple vanity in Graphite sits under a 32-inch Carrera top.

New Tub, Walls, Wainscoting, and Cabinets
The acrylic walls set over the old tile, the tile wainscoting, the steel tub with its acrylic liner, the floor, the vanity, the medicine cabinet, and the toilet came out. A 60-inch white acrylic tub went in with Prairie Mountain Pro Stone walls, a matching ceiling panel, two corner caddies, and Prairie Mountain Pro Stone wainscoting around the room. We also put in a Glen Arbor red oak vanity, a matching cabinet over the toilet, and a matching medicine cabinet, all in Amaretto, with a 32-inch Prairie Mountain top.

What Redford Bathrooms Usually Need
Redford Township was built out mostly in the 1950s, almost all of it detached single-family houses. Many bathrooms still have the tub, tile, and vanity the house was built with.
Census estimates put the median year built for a Redford Township home at 1955, close to the Wayne County figure of 1956. Close to 6 in 10 homes went up in the 1950s and about 8 in 10 before 1960. About 93% are detached single-family houses, about 79% are owner-occupied, and about 7 in 10 have three bedrooms.
In homes this age we often find cast iron and steel tubs, wall and floor tile set in mortar over wire mesh, tile wainscoting, old clothes chutes, and one full bathroom shared by the whole house. In their place go walk-in showers, new tubs, and grout-free Pro Stone cultured marble walls. For planning numbers, see typical bathroom remodeling costs.

Straight answers, drawn from bathrooms we have remodeled in Redford.

How long does a bathroom remodel take in Redford?
Tub-to-shower conversions and tub replacements with Pro Stone walls take 2-4 working days. Full remodels take 5-10 working days, depending on scope, like the bathroom near Plymouth Road and Inkster, where we replaced the tub, the walls, the wainscoting, the cabinets, the floor, and the toilet. -
Can you replace the tub instead of removing it?
Yes. Near Schoolcraft and Telegraph, a steel tub and the wire-mesh tile around it came out, and a new 60-inch steel tub went in with Italian White Pro Stone walls, four corner shelves, and three matte black grab bars. -
What if there is water damage behind the tile?
We repair it as part of the job. Near 6 Mile and Beech Daly, we repaired water-damaged framing and subfloor before the new tub went in, and near Grand River and Inkster, we replaced damaged subfloor along the plumbing wall. -
Can you redo an old tile shower stall?
Yes. Near Inkster and 6 Mile, we took out a tile shower set over wire mesh, the wainscoting, and all of the plaster down to the studs, then built a shower on a custom Platinum Pro Stone pan with Tender Gray walls 96 inches tall, two corner shelves, and a 6-inch recessed light, along with a new Spring Valley maple vanity. -
Can you add grab bars and a seat?
Yes. Near Joy Road and Beech Daly, the new shower has a corner seat and two brushed nickel grab bars, and near Schoolcraft and Telegraph, we added three matte black grab bars around the new tub. -
Which parts of Redford do you serve?
All of Redford Charter Township, including the 48239 and 48240 ZIP codes. We also work in nearby Livonia, Westland, Dearborn, Southfield, and Farmington Hills. -
Are estimates free, and do you offer financing?
Yes. The in-home consultation and written estimate cost nothing, and financing options are available. For planning numbers before we visit, see our Metro Detroit bathroom remodeling cost guide.
