Bathroom remodeling in Royal Oak, Michigan by Home Pro USA

Bathroom Remodeling Royal Oak, MI

Royal Oak bathroom remodeling, tub-to-shower conversions, and basement baths by our own installers

From the older streets near downtown to the postwar blocks north of 12 Mile, most Royal Oak homes were built before 1960, and the main bath is often a compact room built around a tub alcove. We turn those tubs into walk-in showers, replace worn tubs and walls, and rebuild basement baths. Our own crew handles it, start to finish.

  • Near 10 Mile and Main

    A Main-Bath Tub Becomes a Porcelain Shower

The alcove tub and curtain came out, and a walk-in shower went in on the same footprint. It has marble-look 30 by 60 porcelain walls, a recessed niche with a matte black frame, a custom white pan with a matching curb, and a 3/8-inch frameless glass door and panel in matte black. The vanity, toilet, and floor stayed.

  • Off 13 Mile, between Crooks and Main

A Cast Iron Tub Out, a Window Shower In

A lined cast iron tub, the tile walls behind it, and the soffit above it all came out. We built a 60-inch shower with a custom pan and Carrera Pro Stone walls that run to a matching ceiling panel, trimmed the window with a Pro Stone window kit, and replaced the window itself with a tempered, obscured vinyl slider. Sliding glass doors and a fold-down seat finish it.

  • Off Crooks, between 12 and 13 Mile

    A Basement Bathroom, Rebuilt

We gutted this basement bath: floor, drywall, shower, vanity, and drop ceiling. Then came new drywall and a new ceiling, a shower with a custom pan, Italian White Pro Stone walls, and a corner seat, clear sliding glass doors, a Steel Grey maple vanity and medicine cabinet with a Pro Stone top, a comfort-height toilet, and vinyl tile flooring.

  • Near 11 Mile and Main

Carrera Walls and a Graphite Vanity

New Carrera Pro Stone walls went up with a recessed soap and shampoo niche and matching Carrera trim. The vanity is a 24-inch Merillat maple cabinet in Graphite, under a Carrera Pro Stone top with an integral white oval bowl, a 4-inch backsplash, and a matching side splash.

Royal Oak Homes

What Royal Oak Bathrooms Usually Need

Royal Oak grew in two waves: the streets around downtown filled in during the 1920s, and a postwar boom built out the rest of the city. Bungalows and colonials near downtown, and ranches and colonials farther north, shape the bathrooms we see here.

Census estimates put the median year built for a Royal Oak home at 1956, compared with 1975 across Oakland County. About 6 in 10 homes were built before 1960, and the 1950s alone account for nearly 3 in 10. About 65% are detached single-family houses, and about 68% are owner-occupied. Homes run smaller than the county average: only about 12% have four or more bedrooms, compared with about 27% countywide.

In homes this age, the main bath is often a compact room built around a 60-inch tub alcove, as it was in two of the four jobs above. Here we have pulled out a lined cast iron tub, tile set over wire mesh, and a basement drop ceiling. In their place go walk-in showers, new tubs, and grout-free Pro Stone cultured marble walls. For planning numbers, see typical bathroom remodeling costs.

  • Original tub alcoves: a walk-in shower or a new tub on the same footprint
  • Windows in the shower: trimmed with a Pro Stone window kit, or replaced with tempered, obscured glass
  • Basements: a full rebuild, as one family off Crooks between 12 and 13 Mile did
  • Every home: a written, all-in price after we measure, covering materials, labor, haul-away, and cleanup

Royal Oak FAQs

Royal Oak Bathroom Remodeling Questions

Straight answers, drawn from bathrooms we have remodeled in Royal Oak.

  • How long does a bathroom remodel take in Royal Oak?
Tub-to-shower conversions and tub replacements with Pro Stone walls take 2-4 working days. Full remodels take 5-10 working days, depending on scope. A tiled shower takes longer than a wall system: the porcelain tub-to-shower conversion near 10 Mile and Main took 6 working days.
  • Can you turn the tub in an older Royal Oak home into a walk-in shower?
Yes, including cast iron tubs. Off 13 Mile, between Crooks and Main, we removed a lined cast iron tub, the tile walls behind it, and the soffit above it, then built a 60-inch shower with a custom pan, Carrera Pro Stone walls up to a matching ceiling panel, sliding glass doors, and a fold-down seat.
  • What if there is a window in my shower?
We can keep it or replace it. In the shower off 13 Mile, the old window came out and a tempered, obscured vinyl slider went in, trimmed with a Pro Stone window kit so the walls stay sealed and easy to clean.
  • Can you remodel a basement bathroom?
Yes. Off Crooks, between 12 and 13 Mile, we gutted a basement bath and rebuilt it with new drywall and ceiling, a Pro Stone shower with a corner seat, sliding glass doors, a new vanity, medicine cabinet, and toilet, vinyl tile flooring, and a heated exhaust fan vented outside. We look at the space and the plumbing at the consultation.
  • Should I choose porcelain tile or Pro Stone walls?
Both work in Royal Oak homes. Pro Stone cultured marble walls are grout-free and install faster. Porcelain tile takes longer to install but gives a tiled look, like the marble-look 30 by 60 porcelain shower near 10 Mile and Main. Read the tub-to-shower project story.
  • Which parts of Royal Oak do you serve?
All of Royal Oak, including the 48067 and 48073 ZIP codes, from the streets near downtown and 11 Mile up to 14 Mile. We also work in nearby Ferndale, Berkley, Clawson, Madison Heights, Huntington Woods, Birmingham, and Troy.
  • Are estimates free, and do you offer financing?
Yes. The in-home consultation and written estimate cost nothing, and financing options are available. For planning numbers before we visit, see our Metro Detroit bathroom remodeling cost guide.
