The Job

A Steel Tub Turned Walk-In Shower

This Clinton Township bath had a steel tub with white tile walls. The home has more than one bathroom. This one became a walk-in shower.

Only the tub area changed. The steel tub came out, along with the tile on the wet walls. The vanity, toilet, and tile floor all stayed.

A custom white Pro Stone base now fills the old tub spot. It measures 60 by 29½ inches. A one-piece Carrera curb finishes its front edge.

Four tall Carrera Pro Stone panels line the walls, in a gloss finish. Carrera is white with soft gray veins. There are no grout lines to scrub.

A diamond corner caddy sits in one corner. Two pie-shaped shelves sit in the other. Both are Carrera Pro Stone, so they match the walls.

A Moen Eva single-handle shower control and a Moen magnetic handheld shower head finish the wall. Both are brushed nickel. A shower curtain closes off the front, so there is no glass to clean.

Jeff and Greg did the installation in 2 working days. Kevin was the product specialist. This is one Home Pro USA project in Clinton Township, in Macomb County. See more on our Clinton Township page.

Project FAQs

Questions About This Conversion

How long did this tub-to-shower conversion take?
Two working days. Jeff and Greg took out the steel tub and the wall tile on day one and set the new base. Day two was walls, shelves, and fixtures. The rest of the bathroom was left alone.
Did the rest of the bathroom have to change?
No. Only the tub area came out. The vanity, toilet, and tile floor all stayed in place. A one-piece Carrera curb finishes the front edge of the new base, so it looks neat next to the old floor.
What is Carrera Pro Stone?
Pro Stone is our cultured marble. Carrera is a white pattern with soft gray veins, here in a gloss finish. These walls are four tall panels, so there are no grout lines to scrub like the old tile had.
Will a shower base fit where my tub was?
Usually, yes. This custom Pro Stone base was made at 60 by 29½ inches to fill the old tub spot, so no walls had to move. We measure your space at the consultation before anything is ordered.
Where do the shampoo bottles go?
A diamond corner caddy holds them in one back corner, and two pie-shaped shelves sit in the other. All three are Carrera Pro Stone, so they match the walls. Nothing had to be cut into the walls for storage.
