The Job

A Closet Out, a New Shower In

This Northville Township home had a first-floor closet with a bifold door, a wire shelf and rod, and a ceramic tile floor, with the basement below it. The bifold door, the tile floor, the subfloor, and part of the short return walls at the opening came out.

We framed the shower with new walls, reinforced for a grab bar, and ran all new plumbing to it. The shower sits on a custom 46 1/4 by 33-inch Tundra Pro Stone pan with a 48-inch Frost curb. Frost Pro Stone walls in a gloss finish run 108 inches high, with a corner caddy, an 18 by 18-inch corner seat, and an 18-inch chrome grab bar.

A Moen Eva single-handle shower in chrome runs a Moen Magnetix shower head with a magnetic hand shower. A 1/4-inch obscure glass door with an inline panel in chrome closes the opening, and a new LED halo light on its own Decora switch lights the shower. Painting was left to the homeowner, so the drywall patches beside the new shower are unpainted in the after photos.

Adam and Dave did the installation in 6 working days, and Kevin was the product specialist. This is one Home Pro USA project in Northville, near 6 Mile and Ridge. Nearby work is on our Novi and Livonia pages.

Project FAQs

Questions About This Conversion

Can you turn a closet into a shower?
Yes, when plumbing can reach it. This first-floor closet sat over the basement. We ran all new plumbing, framed the space, and built a Pro Stone shower in it. At the consultation we check how the plumbing can get to your closet.
How long did this conversion take?
Adam and Dave finished it in 6 working days, including the framing, the new plumbing, the shower, the glass door, and the light. Your written quote lists the full scope before work starts.
Did you paint the walls?
Not on this job. Painting was left to the homeowner, so the drywall patches around the new shower are unpainted in the after photos.
What are Frost and Tundra?
They are Pro Stone colors. Pro Stone is our cultured marble for shower pans, walls, seats, and caddies, and it goes up in large panels with no grout lines. This shower has Frost walls and a Frost curb on a Tundra pan.
Do you work in Northville?
