Corner Tub and Fiberglass Stall Out, a Carrera Shower With a Bench In

This Newport-area bathroom had a raised plastic corner tub, a fiberglass shower stall with sliding doors, and carpet on the floor. Ron, Charlie, and Brian took all of it out. Now a Carrera Pro Stone shower with a bench and a clear glass door, a 95-inch two-bowl vanity top, and a gray tile-look floor fill the room.

The Job

A Big Bath, Made Simpler

This big bathroom in a Newport-area manufactured home, in Frenchtown Township, had a raised plastic corner tub, a fiberglass shower stall with sliding doors, and carpet on the floor. A skylight lights the room from above.

Out came the corner tub, the fiberglass stall, the old vanity top, and the carpet and vinyl flooring. The oak vanity cabinet stayed.

The new shower went in where the old stall was. It has a white Pro Stone base and smooth Carrera Pro Stone walls, with a matching bench seat and a corner caddy. A clear glass door closes it in.

Four chrome grab bars make it easier to get in, sit, and stand. The shower has a combination shower head and hand shower in chrome, plus a new light over the shower.

The oak vanity got a new 95-inch Carrera Pro Stone top with two bowls and two chrome faucets. A new toilet went in, and a gray tile-look vinyl floor now runs through the whole room over a new subfloor.

We also put in a new exhaust fan with a light and set up the switches so each one runs one thing. With the corner tub gone, that end of the room is open floor.

How long did this bathroom remodel take?
Six working days. Ron, Charlie, and Brian took out the corner tub, the fiberglass stall, and the carpet, built the new Carrera shower, set the new vanity top, and laid the new floor over a new subfloor.
Do you remodel bathrooms in manufactured homes?
Yes. This bathroom is in a manufactured home in Frenchtown Township. We plan for the way these homes are built, add new drywall behind the shower walls, and put down a new subfloor before the new floor.
What happens to the space when a corner tub comes out?
Here the raised corner tub came out completely, and that end of the room is now open floor with the new tile-look vinyl. The old fiberglass stall was replaced in the same spot with a Carrera shower.
Can I keep my vanity and just replace the top?
Often, yes. This homeowner kept the oak vanity cabinet. We made a new 95-inch Carrera Pro Stone top with two bowls to fit it, with a backsplash and side splashes to match the shower.
