The Job

A Wider Shower Opening and a Freestanding Tub

This West Bloomfield master bathroom had a drop-in steel tub with a tiled backsplash. We removed it and widened the opening into the shower. In its place we installed a Japanese-style freestanding tub with a fixture. It is a 51-inch Medunjess stone resin soaking tub with an AKDY floor-mount filler in brushed nickel, framed by Monteverde Onyx wainscot panels.

The shower is Pro Stone in 505 Aspen Green, with a ceiling panel, a contemporary corner seat, brushed-nickel grab bars, a Delta 2-in-1 fixture, and an Arizona ESE sliding door with clear glass. The new Merillat Classic maple vanity cabinets with Fusion doors came with matching medicine cabinets and a Calacatta Noble quartz top with two undermount sinks and Delta Lahara faucets. A new Kohler Highline Arc toilet finished the room.

Adam and Dave installed it in 13 working days, from late December 2024 into early January 2025. Larry was the product specialist. This is one Home Pro USA project in West Bloomfield, in Oakland County. Nearby work is on our Farmington Hills bathroom remodeling page.

Project FAQs

Questions About This Kind of Remodel

Did this remodel keep a tub?
Yes. The drop-in steel tub came out and a Japanese-style freestanding stone resin soaking tub went in, with a floor-mount filler and Onyx wainscot panels around it. This was not a tub-to-shower conversion. See acrylic bathtubs.
Why widen the shower opening?
The drop-in tub sat in the way. Removing it let us open the shower area so the stall and the new tub could work in the same room.
What was included with the vanity?
New Merillat Classic maple cabinets with Fusion doors, two matching medicine cabinets, and a Calacatta Noble quartz top with two undermount sinks. See vanities and countertops.
Do you remodel bathrooms in West Bloomfield and nearby Oakland County cities?
Yes. This job is in West Bloomfield. We also work across Oakland County, including Farmington Hills, Novi, Bloomfield Township, and Southfield.
What will a remodel like this cost?
Price depends on removing the drop-in, widening the shower opening, the freestanding tub and fixture, the vanity cabinets, medicine cabinets, quartz top, and the new toilet. Use the Metro Detroit cost guide for planning ranges, then get a written in-home quote.
